Fender Twin Reverb Clone with 807's

I've always wanted a Fender Twin Reverb guitar amp. The classic early '60's ones are going for $2500 or so, and the newer ones are still over a grand. So I decided to build my own. I had most of the parts already, but the chassis and case came from Mojotone.

Starting to populate the chassis. The Fender used 6L6GC tubes, but the price on them has skyrocketed, so I substituted old 807 transmitting tubes, which are essentially a 6L6 in an RF package (plate cap on top). Slightly less plate dissipation, but I expect it to sound good.

I was intrigued by the late '50's circuit board, which is just eyelets in a fibreboard, so I bought it instead of doing point-to-point. Maybe that will give me some of that Magical Fender Sound, eh?

Getting all the lead wires on the board creates quite a rats-nest.

I got the board wired into the chassis now. Later, I changed to shielded wire for the inputs and connections to the tone stack, as I was picking up a bit of hum on the reverb/vibrato channel.

Here's the top of the chassis (which is actually the bottom when installed upside-down in the case).

Reconed speakers in the cabinet.

...and DONE! The Mojotone case is beautifully constructed. The amp sounds absolutely wonderful, clear and bright and deep, actually a bit better sound than I expected?

Here's where I reconed the speakers.
