120 W Bass Guitar Amp

I decided to build a higher power bass guitar amp. I was originally going to use 6146's.

I forget why right now, maybe it was the screen voltage, but I decided to go with 1625's instead. Laying out the chassis here.

Punching holes and mounting sockets.

Starting on the wiring. I wanted the lowest impedance rectifiers so I'm using 866 mercury vapor ones here for that, and for the glow!.

...and here I go again. I messed up the first chassis, and decided to re-arrange things too.

Got the big parts mounted. Note the Amperite timer relay tube, so that the 866's have time to warm up before the HV comes on.

Testing the power supply.

Starting the wiring.

I decided to incorporate a small oscilloscope just for fun, so there's the under-chassis transformer for it, as well as the HV capacitor that would soon fail and burn up the transformer.

Doing some voltage testing.

I was getting some hum from the rectifier area, but a small shield supressed that nicely.

Also, the horizontal sweep oscillator was generating some noise, so I shielded that wire and eliminated that issue.

There's the scope tube mounted, along with the replacement scope transformer and filter capacitor below it.

It's glows!.
